Sediment Transport Study 2012

HOMEBIBLIOGRAPHIC DATABASE

This web-based study is best viewed on a laptop or desktop screen; it is less suitable for tablets and smartphones, due in large part to size of maps used and some of the functionality of those maps and other elements within the online presentation.

This Sediment Transport Study can be navigated in two ways:

  1. Via the drop-down menu displayed at the top of each page
  2. Via clickable maps embedded in the pages

The home page shows a map covering all areas of the study. To select an area (unit) either:

  1. Rollover the grey ‘boxes’ on the map & select the appropriate highlighted area or
  2. Select the area by name from the drop-down menu under “Select STS Study Area”

Once within a unit you can target specific Sediment Transport Pathway information by:

Selecting it from the interactive area map (arrows on the map of each unit represent transport processes. Dots represent available photographs. Clicking on arrows or dots will link you to the relevant section of the literature review or gallery where you will find detailed information), or

By selecting ‘Map’ ‘Literature Review’ or ‘Photos’ from each study area sub-menu.

NOTE: each Literature Review contains several summary sections for each unit that are not directly linked from the map. Also note that only the actual sediment transfer arrows are clickable. Other information relating to sediment sinks and stores is available in the literature review.

Once within a literature review you will find a floating Index panel in the top-right of your screen. This is intended to make navigation of the content as quick and easy as possible. The panel can be closed if it interferes with your reading; it can also be moved around the screen for your convenience; simply point, click and drag the panel with your mouse. To re-open a closed panel please refresh your browser window.

Each literature review includes a comprehensive Reference section which can be found via a link in the Index panel (see above); it opens in a separate window that will, in most browsers, open at a small size, making it available to refer to as you read.

Similarly, each literature review includes links to a number of photos; they too will open in a separate small size browser window for easy reference. Photos can be enlarged to full size by clicking on the image; a full description is included below each enlarged image.

Search tip. We have provided a search box at the top of each page, which will create a list of pages that include a particular word or phrase. To search an individual Literature Review (or any page) for a particular word or phrase you can use a keyboard shortcut: Press Ctrl + F and a search field will appear either at the top or bottom of your browser.
