Lodmoor Marshes, 2001. The original Weymouth Bay barrier beach extended southward and migrated landward across the River Wey valley enclosing a low-lying marshy and lagoonal hinterland. Much of this has been drained and reclaimed to accommodate the encroaching suburbs of Weymouth. Lodmoor remains providing valuable reedbed and lagoon habitats. Note that it is protected now by the wide replenished Preston Beach and is flanked by the A353.
