Photo 8 (Return) Sandown - Yaverland seawall, 2001. The upper beach is depleted so that the wall is exposed to breaking waves on every high tide (a high neap tide is recorded in this photo). Wave reflection from the wall induces additional scour and exacerbates the problem of retaining beach levels. The Chalk headland of Culver Cliff can be seen in the distance. |
