Monk's Bay, 2001. The previously eroding cliffs have been regraded and drainage has been installed to stabilise the slope. Toe protection is provided by a detached rock breakwater and series of rock groynes, controlling a beach recharge of 17,000 cubic metres of marine dredged gravel completed in 1992. The risk was that toe erosion and unloading could promote a landward migration of instability upslope that could reactivate the full Undercliff including properties within Bonchurch.
