Photo 24 (Return) View east from Woody Point, southern Undercliff, 2001. Wave action is eroding the toes of the ancient landslides of the Undercliff releasing sandstone boulders that form extensive protective aprons upon the retreating foreshore. The sea cliffs are composed of mixed landslide debris that is eroded easily, but they provide vital support for the ancient landslides above. A series of mixed gravel pocket beaches occupy small embayments between minor headlands and the boulder aprons. |
