Lake Cliffs and beach at low tide, 2001. The beach comprises a sandy, low gradient lower foreshore and a narrow, steeper, upper beach of coarse sand and gravel. A continuous sea wall and esplanade protects the cliff toe from wave attack, although the free face continues to erode producing talus. Groynes intercept upper beach sediments drifting northward towards Sandown (in distance).
