Seawall and Esplanade at Welcome Beach, Lake 2001. The upper beach is almost completely absent and waves may strike the sea wall at mid to high tide. Until construction of the sea wall in 1974, these sandy cliffs remained free to erode and contributed sediments to the shore. Following protection of their toes, the free cliff faces above have continued to erode contributing material to talus lobes that occasionally fail and surge across the esplanade.
