Medmerry Barrier Beach October 2000. Storm waves frequently overtop the beach attempting to flatten its profile and push it landward by "rollover". The Environment Agency maintain the beach insitu as a key coastal defence by reprofiling and replenishment, frequently having to continue operations day and night to maintain the integrity of the crest. Note the highly steepened and reflective crest and relatively narrow barrier crest. The groynes have deteriorated and along this sector are relatively ineffective at intercepting drift. |
