East Head Spit April 2001. Located at the eastern margin of the entrance to Chichester Harbour, it has rotated clockwise since 1880 around its point of attachment ("the Hinge") to the mainland. The Hinge has eroded and narrowed being stabilised by three groynes, which have induced terminal scour up the neck of the spit. By contrast, the head of the spit has accreted significantly since the introduction of dune management in the 1960s.
