Medmerry Beach 1998. The beach protects an extensive low-lying reclaimed hinterland that was once a tidal channel connecting with Pagham Harbour. Beach integrity is maintained in situ by re-profiling and replenishment undertaken by the Environment Agency over a 3.5km frontage. Note the Broad Rife drainage outfall in the foreground and the large caravan and holiday centre in the mid-distance. Plans have been made for a limited setback of the barrier to improve its stability.
