Rapid erosion of raised beach deposits, West Selsey. Terminal scour occurs at this downdrift end of the Selsey defences. The receding cliffs supply small quantities of flint pebbles and sand to the beach. In centuries prior to widespread construction of coastal defences, much of the Selsey peninsular would have retreated in this manner yielding significant quantities of flint pebbles to the beaches. Much of this resource has become exhausted as the headland has diminished. |
