Photo 3 (Return) Friars Cliff, Mudeford, 2001. Cliffs formed within sandy units of the Barton Clay erode at slow to moderate rates by rockfall and sub-aerial processes. The wide sandy beach provides protection to the cliff toe (especially to the east (right). Its sediments are supplied from eastward drift (from left to right), onshore transport from the Christchurch Harbour ebb tidal delta and from erosion of the cliffs themselves. |
