Photo 11 (Return) Becton Bunny outfall, 1995. Protection of the outfall has created a barrier to eastward beach drift (towards camera) with beach accretion on the far side and depletion on the nearside. This has exposed the soft Becton Sand strata of the cliff toe to marine erosion, resulting loss of a 50-60m width of the cliff top from 1967 to 1993, representing a doubling of the previous rate of recession. Considerable quantities of sand and gravels are supplied from the cliffs and drift eastward along the beach (to the left). |
