Chesil Beach at Wyke Regis, 2001. The beach comprises a wide barrier of medium shingle with a steep seaward face and a wide low gradient backslope formed of washover fans. Fleet Lagoon narrows considerably at this point where landward migration is threatening to intersect the rising topography of the hinterland. Strong tidal flows are generated at this point of constriction and appear to have eroded cliffs and a narrow fronting platform into the shoreline of the Fleet.
