Photo 10 (Return)

Chesil Beach at West Bexington, 2001. A fine gravel beach fronts a narrow lowland strip and topography rises rapidly inland. It is thought that Holocene landward migration of the beach has resulted in the narrowing and infilling of a formerly continuous lagoon behind. Scattered remnants of the lagoon remain as isolated ponds see upper left of photo. Eventually, the beach will migrate onto the rising topography and new cliffs are likely to form.
