SCOPAC provided a £10,000 contribution towards development of the updated Beach Management Manual, and hosted the launch event in Southampton in October 2010.
The Beach Management Manual can be freely downloaded in pdf format by those registered at the CIRIA website
A paperback copy (£330) and a CD-ROM (£150) is also available to purchase online from the CIRIA website.

The eighty page guide was written by Professor Robin McInnes OBE, Chairman of SCOPAC’s Technical Officer Group 1995-2009, and updates an earlier version by the same author, first published in 2004.
The new guide was launched to an invited audience of coastal MPs and coastal professionals by Cllr Roger Elkins from Arun District Council, current Chairman of SCOPAC, Andrew Turner MP and Robin McInnes.

Work carried out by Coastal and Geotechnical Services, Halcrow and the Channel Coastal Observatory (CCO) addresses the need for more refined assessments of the methodologies currently applied in Shoreline Management Plans and Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategies to ascertain coastal erosion risk and identify and value the assets at risk, looking ahead over the next one hundred years.
